Science advice in a changing world: Sir Peter Gluckman interview

In a recent interview with The Science Diplomat, Sir Peter Gluckman has reflected on the evolving role of science advice in an increasingly complex and polarised world.

Drawing on his experience leading the independent and non-partisan institute Koi Tū Centre for Informed Futures, Sir Peter discussed the importance of independent, evidence-informed thinking in addressing long-term challenges, from technological disruption to social cohesion and global risk.

Sir Peter emphasised that science does not make policy, but rather informs it. Effective science advice, he argued, requires transparency about uncertainty, clarity about values, and strong institutions that can bridge the gap between evidence and decision-making.

He also reflected on his international work with the International Science Council, highlighting the growing need for global cooperation in science diplomacy and advisory systems.
