Challenging our misconceptions about youth mental health

We talk a lot about young people’s mental health, but do we really understand what’s going on? And how do we separate fact from fiction?

Koi Tū research fellow Dr Jess Stubbing presented at Raising the Bar recently with her talk ‘Challenging our misconceptions about youth mental health.’

Jess leads the youth mental health research team, working to improve understanding of and response to young people’s mental health challenges.

In the talk, she broke down some harmful myths surrounding youth mental health and asked is social media really the root of all issues? Is it all in the brain? Do adults know best what young people need? She also challenged the idea that young people have it easy and just need to ‘harden up’.

It’s time for us to set the record straight and work towards a better understanding of youth mental health together. Join us to learn more and take action towards positive change.
