Sir Peter Gluckman has been named among the world’s leading medicine researchers in Research.com’s 2026 ranking of Best Scientists in Medicine.
Sir Peter, who is Koi Tū Centre for Informed Futures’ Director and Managing Trustee, is ranked fourth in New Zealand, and 1,617th globally. He has also received the 2026 Research.com Medicine in New Zealand Leader Award, following earlier awards in 2022, 2023 and 2025.
The international ranking assesses researchers using the D-index, a discipline-specific measure of the impact of their publications and citations.
Sir Peter has a Medicine D-index of 139, based on an extensive body of research spanning areas including paediatrics, perinatal and child health, public health, neuroscience and molecular biology.
The recognition reflects Sir Peter’s longstanding contribution to medical science and his broader work connecting scientific evidence with public policy.
The fifth edition of Research.com’s Best Medicine Scientists ranking evaluated more than 20,000 researchers in medicine. Rankings were determined primarily by discipline-specific publication and citation impact, using bibliometric information collected in January 2026.
